Parents and their future
Today, I was listening to a podcast and the young lady called into dicuss her parents and the possiblity of a future that includes them moving in with her and her husband. The parents have no money saved for retirement and the dad, I believe they said, is 63years old. He is moving to another state for a new job. This job makes over $300,000 a year. This young lady and her husband combined only make about $70,000. She was asking how she should help them in the future. She felt obligated because they paid for her college. NEVER make your children feel like they owe you something for giving them a debt-free college experience. NEVER assume you owe your parents ANYTJING for doing what they chose to do for you and your future. If your parents choose to not manage their AMAZING income for their future, it is NOT your responsibility.
Also, there was an update from a woman who was a stay at home mom, who lost her husband. She was intensely worried about a foreclosure due to getting behind due to life insurance issues, no job, etc. She had gotten on her feet and only owes total, for an over $300,000, about $68,000. She is able to pay debts now that she is working and the life insurance is fixed. Here is my advice, 1st, being a stay at home mom is great if you choose that life, but you must still have some kind of skill for employement, just in case you have to get out and work! 2nd, HAVE LIFE INSURANCE! Have life insurance for ANYONE who relys on your income, ie wife, kids. EVEN if you are a stay at home mom, it will cost to replace all you do, ie babysitters, daycare, etc. Take care of your family! Even if you leave!.
